Did you know that fifty percent of foster parents quit within their first year of becoming licensed? Recognizing this critical challenge, Jacqueline—drawing from her extensive experience as both a social worker and a foster parent—developed the Foster Foundation. This comprehensive guide provides practical steps and self-awareness techniques to better prepare first-time foster parents.

"My husband and I have three biological children and have been fostering since 2020. Before we became foster parents, we were promised a village of support. However, when it came time to needing that village, the involvement was minimal or even nonexistent. This hurdle among many others-- life took a turn we weren't expecting.

Without a strong foundation in place before accepting placements, we quickly became burnt out.

Despite completing the required training hours, fostering significantly impacted our day-to-day life and the way our household functioned. Just how many other foster families start out-- the required trainings did not prepare you for what real life is going to be like.

Now, we’ve learned how to find comfort, connection, and even joy in our chaos. We have two beds for children in need (both currently full) and consistently accept respite placements to help other foster families get the breaks they need to continue their fostering journey.

The need for foster homes is so great but the retention rate is so high. This inevitably only adds onto the trauma that these children endure. I did my best being an open book and supporting others in efforts to help them continue... but I wanted to do more. I felt I needed to do more. So-- the Foster Foundation was born, and I thought what more convenient way to really build a true village nowadays than inside an app." - Jacqueline
